A group of spikey haired, whiney losers who can't seem to reach past the first fret of their guitar.

They seem to be set out to destroy everything that TRUE METAL stands for.
Korn sucks. So does Slipknot.

Copied from wikipedia:Bands linked with nu metal derive influence from a variety of diverse styles, including electronica/electronic music, funk, glam rock, gothic rock, grunge, hardcore punk, hip hop, industrial rock, jazz, post punk and synthpop. Also, nu metal derives influence from multiple subgenres of heavy metal including rap metal, funk metal and thrash metal. Nu metal music is mostly syncopated and based on riffs. Its lack of guitar solos and virtuousity contrasts it with other metal subgenres. Another way in which nu metal is contrasted with other metal subgenres is its emphasis on rhythm. Similarities with other metal subgenres include its use of common time, distorted guitars, power chords and note structures primarily revolving around Dorian, Aeolian or Phrygian modes. Some nu metal bands use 7-string guitars over traditional 6-string guitars. 7-string guitars, which are sometimes downtuned to increase heaviness, resulted in bass guitarists using five-string and six-string instruments. Some nu metal bands feature a DJ for additional rhythmic instrumentation. The vocals of many bands may range from melodic singing to rapping to screaming to death growling or in some cases have all of these styles in a single song but it can range from song to song. The lyrics of many nu metal bands focus on pain and personal alienation rather than the themes of other metal subgenres. I thought Id put a definition in that doesnt use childish behaviour to put foward biased arguments
All the are nu metal: Korn, Slipknot, Static-x, Disturbed, Mudvayne, System of A Down...etc.

It's time to set some things straight about Nu-metal, like what IS nu metal and what is not. First off, Nickelback and Three Doors Down are MUCH more like rock bands, not metal. Granted they suck, but they're not metal in the least, either lyrically or in theme. This is important because calling bands like them "nu-metal" gives nu-metal an even worse name than it already has.

I also notice that a lot of people here are jumping to the defense of System of a Down and I must say I agree. SOAD is the only "nu-metal" band that really stands out in the category. System's songs and lyrics have some cool themes much like early Metallica (no, I'm not saying they sound very much alike but the themes of the songs are similar) unlike the emotionally insecure screaming of Slipknot (they have 4 more members than they need and Cory can't sing for his life), Linkin Park (Chester sounds like he has a vibrator stuck in his larnyx) and of course that poser Fred Durst. SOAD's songs are also quite catchy 99% non-depressing, they'll even make you laugh sometimes. It is for this reason that I find it hard to actually call them nu metal. Maybe Alternative Metal would be better for SOAD. Besides, does their lead singer Serj sound much like your typical screaming nu metal frontman?

Overall, nu metal is like any other musical genre, with good bands and bad ones to match. Good nu metal bands include SOAD, Atreyu, Disturbed, Ill Nino, and some KoRn. Bad ones include poppy bands such as Linkin Park, Slipknot, POD, Limp Bizkit, some KoRn, Puddle of Mudd, and Drowning Pool.
Why diss nu-metal when you could be dissing rap instead?

Form of music brought back to mainstream after grunge was thought to "destroy" real heavy metal of the 70's, 80's and early 90's.
These "Nu-Metal"-ists often use rapping and DJ sounds to enhance the sound. Although they are not really metal bands, they pose to be by using angry growls and screams over weak, riffless guitars uncommon to real heavy metal.

A subgenre of music that was largely popular from 1996 - 2002 mostly. It still has a moderate following as of 2010 though. Bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Clawfinger, Disturbed, Hed PE, Linkin Park, Coal Chamber, and Vanilla Ice can all be considered Nu Metal bands. It has a subculture and the typical clothhing style of said subculture are baggy jeans/shorts, tattoos, piercings, Adidas brand shoes and clothing, skateboarding brand clothes and shoes(Adio, Etnies, DC Shoes, Vans, etc.) and sometimes dyed and/or spiked hair. Traditional Metalheads hate it due to the fact that Nu Metal dosen't have guitar solos and is more angsty thus making them say it is "Un Metal". I personally think it is the greatest genre of Rock/Metal to have ever been made!
Nu Metal fan - "Hey, have you heard the new Korn album? It AWESOME!"
Br00tal Metalhead - "Fuk Shit Metal it aint REAL Metal...SLAYERRRRRRRRRRR!!!!"
Nu Metal fan - "OOOOOO K?
Br00tal Metalhead - "Quit sayin its br00tall! its NOT METULLLLL!!!!!! Listen to REAL Metal! Like GOREGORE DIEEEE!!!"
Nu Metal fan - "Your a dumbass, goodbye" *starts blasting old school Staind on his iPod*.

1) nu-metal is an aggressive and raw subculture of metal which generally fuses influences from grunge, hip-hop, alt-rock, and electronic sounds usually with thrash and groove metal.

2) A name used by intolerant and ignorant fucktards who feel the need to slap labels on music in order to descriminate against things they don't like. Usually done by metal n00bs, pretenders and tryhards.

3) A kind of metal with lots of variety, all bands in the genre suffering from the bad reputation of few of them.

Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit and Disturbed (as well as others) are often called so.

1) dude1: "Disturbed is pretty good, but some of their music is a bit strange."
dude2: "Yeah, Nu-Metal can be like that."

2) metalhead: "Man, I love Mudvayne, Pantera, Slipknot and Metallica."
cockfag: "lolzors. wtf wrong wit yo n00b? Slipknot iz totaly Nu-Metal. You r stoopid and ghey."

3) "Limp Bizkit is basically rap, but Slipknot is metal to the core."
