1 - A broad genre that consists of great bands and shitty bands. Self proclaimed "true" metal-heads who listen to only speed metal or thrash metal and think that all the metal world has to offer is fast guitar riffs in straight E tuning and lyrics that were written in an instant and the same damn solo in every song that was pretty amazing the first time you heard it until you realized it was just some guy playing some scale really fast and then jerking the fuck off his whammy bar without any emotion whatsoever. These "true" metal-heads denounce Nu Metal because of its lack of guitar solos and say it's unemotional fast guitar riffs in low dropped tuning and their singers don't sing. So basically the difference is that the two forms of metal are in two different tunings and one of them doesn't consist of solos and makes up for that with emotion.

2-Too broad a term to really paint a picture of but is characterized by electronics, emotion, a tendancy to piss off a hypocritical self (and wrongly) proclaimed "true" metalhead (who should listen to some fucking Tool and Alice in Chains if he wants to know which talented bands to compare nu metal bands to in order to show how untalented they are), and less talent than the metal of the late 80s and early 90s. Sure nu metal bands lack solos and tend to write most of their songs in the same key and don't do anything that's technically amazing, but they have more emotion than all every "true" metalhead's bands combined! 3-Unfortunately a genre that appeals to teenagers who think they're depressed but are just too dumb to look around themselves and see that everyone else is going through the same thing, really haven't heard any real real real music and listen to bands because of the lyrics that are simple and dark enough for them to relate to and the image of the band. It's because of these dumbasses that everyone else hates nu metal.

After many years of extensive research, Scientists have come up with the following definition:

The boy bands of metal. A form of music with repetive and irratating riffs, deridable forced angst lyrics, bad singing, and an undeniable lack of talent. It is a trend among Hot Topic sheep goths, steroid addicted jocks, and 10 year olds who just have been introduced to MTV. The music is commercialized, fake, and mixes metal with forms of rapcore and bad alternative rock. Bands include Slipknot, KoRn, Cold, etc.

A form of hard rock, that started in the early 1990s, with such bands as Korn. Contrary to popular belief, Nu Metal is not actuualy a Metal style, because it evolved from hardcore, which in turn evolved from punk, and not metal.
Nu Metal is closely related to rapcore.

Nu Metal is suppossed to be the 'new metal' of the new age. Mixing lots of pop-culture into their music and image. Speaking of image, that's basically all they're based around, image. One band that sticks out in my mind is Slipknot. Probably one of the most popular nu metal bands, but as all nu metal bands do, they suck. They're not innovative in any way whatsoever. These bands can hardly play guitar, and most people proclaim the drumming is incredible, when really it isn't at all. Some people also proclaim that the 'new' Slipknot has wonderful and fast guitar solos, but no, they don't have even one. And their most complicated riffs aren't even complicated at all. Anyway, the genre is mostly loved by people who have a wonderful life but for some reason think their life is shit. So they go throughout their life acting depressed, but when someone asks why they're depressed they either say 'Well, because my life sucks.' or 'My parents are the worst.' But in reality they have good lives and their parents are the some of the best. Or they're just spoiled so much to hell and back that they don't know anything. You 'nu metal' bastards need to quit listening to your Slipknot and go listen to some Megadeth, or a real metal band that has talent. Such as Megadeth, as I said before, Opeth, And Oceans, At The Gates, Thyrfing, Rhapsody, Dimmu Borgir, or Children of Bodom. A new subgenre of metal which includes bands such as Korn, Slipknot, Disturbed, and various others from the late 80's to today.

These guys are just introducing a new metal sound, guys. Get over it. Many people like it, and that's why it became mainstream. I might not like some of the bands, but I don't call them "fake" because of that. They're just as much metal as Metallica or Slayer are, and just because they sound different doesn't mean they suck. It sure would be boring if all bands sounded the same, don't you think?

I like all kinds of metal - power, thrash, progressive, and even nu. Here are some examples: I like Slipknot but I don't like Slayer. I like Children of Bodom but I don't like Korn.

It's still that metal I know and love, so I listen to it. If I don't like a band, I just don't listen to it. I don't come here and call them fake. If I wanted to complain, I'd at least give good reasons for my complaint.

it is basically and purely, the light beer of music. It's not necessarily as hard or heavy as real metal music(cry me a river about it). It offers a variety of sounds, tastes, and moods , while still having the same base, while Metal is usually just loud angst music. Since it's easier on the ears usually, theres a greater chance of playing a numetal song in public without getting someone offended or pissed off. regular metal music, you have to enjoy it when your alone or with other people who like metal music.

Forget the definition... Most all of you are just hating cause if you did like "nu-metal" you would have to explain it to you narrow-minded friends and then get ur ass kicked. I am a fan of all, new and old... I dont dis a group or band or whatever just because they have a particular theme or silly antics. For the record I like and in some cases LOVE some nu metal bands... however I would agree with the lack of variety that may be present in these commerical groups. I have read most of these definitions and really think that most of you ~90% are just plain silly. I was quite amazed to not see the likes of Marilyn Manson in any of these definitions (if you can call them that) but I guess thats because hes not really metal, but neither is Linkin Park or Slipknot. As I look through my collection of music I see a large mixture of classics like Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and Frank Zappa which are certainly classic rock and not metal. But equally as important as the classics is the more recent stuff (recent = last 20 years) Manson Korn and SOAD fill my collection as plenifully as Metallica, Dimmu, and Children Of Bodom do. As I know most of you will reject this commentary I would like to give everyone including myself the opportunity to say, "FUCK YOU!" to all you haters. System is kewl, Slipknot can rock a stadium, Metallica can get you pumped, and Dimmu can corrupt the deepest darkest corners of your soul. They all rock for their own reasons!...
