The crown of Virginia, NOVA is the only decent place in the state. It's money is stolen and given to the rejects--I mean the rest of Virginia. Although we attend the colleges scattered around the state, we quickly return when we finish because there is no other place with great job opportunities and high salaries. We do not stop, stare, and gaze when we see people that are not white. We are not southerners, nor would you find a confederate flag anywhere in the area, we actually take offense to being called southern. Luxury is a common site and most of the time a standard. We forced Virginia to vote blue in the elections :D We are the voice of Virginia. The only other great populations are either because its the capital of the state or because we needed a place to buy beach property in our state. Other than that everyone lives in NOVA. Its the best place with the greatest things to do. I would go down there and tell it to all you Southern Virginians but:

1.) I would get no cell phone signal

2.) GPS probably hasn't been invented there yet

3.) I don't have 4 wheel drive to take dirt roads

4.) I'm not white so I would get shot
Californian: Hey you're the new guy from Virginia?
Me: Oh no, not me, I'm from Northern Virginia

the part of virginia that ignores the rest of virginia because the rest of virginia isnt as rich, and is therefore labled a home for "hicks." Also known as the blue part of a traditionally red state, mostly because of its diverse cultural background. This part of the state of virginia is comprised of many identical developments with cliched names such as "oak hill", "maple ridge", or "pine meadow." Of course , the irony behind the situation is that the oaks, maples, and pines have all been cut down.
guy1: hey im a douchebag
guy2: move to northern virginia.
guy1: im way ahead of you.

A detestable suburban backwater of America's lame, bland and culturally vacant capital. Filled with characterless subdivisions populated with characterless people and the poor immigrants that serve them, this place is so utterly conventional and uninteresting that it actually makes Westchester, Long Island, and Northern New Jersey look like they aren't cultural wastelands. NoVA doesn't suck simply because it lacks museums and "culture"--this is to be expected of any suburb. It sucks because the city it borders sucks. That city sucks because it is the center of government, and to be successful in government, one must be as uncontroversial (hence, boring, conventional) as possible. Any individual considering giving birth and raising children should realize that forcing them to grow up in NoVA will stunt them intellectually, emotionally, and aspirationally, for the rest of their lives.
Kid: "Why am I so bored that all I do all day is (smoke pot/drink/smoke cigarettes) and/or try to act like a (redneck or rap star)?

Wizened person: Because you live in Northern Virginia. Hope you at least get into college or something.

A region in the north of Virginia consisting of Fairfax, Arlington, Loudon, Prince William, Alexandria, and Falls Church. It is a largely suburban area. It is home to an unusually high proportion of immigrants and minorities, particularly Asians. Because most Northern Virginians either moved to the area recently or are descended from people who did, the region's culture is not primarily Southern as the rest of Virginia is, and it tends to vote liberal more than the rest of the state. Its economy is heavily influenced by its proximity to Washington D.C., and many residents work in the government or technology. These industries have made Northern Virginia is very affluent, and as of 2009, 4 of the top 10 highest-income counties in the U.S. are in Northern Virginia. Lower education in Northern Virginia is some of the best in the country.

Some immature Northern Virginians condescend to Southern Virginians and whine about their tax dollars going to the south. Some immature Southern Virginians complain about how arrogant, bratty, and stupid they like to imagine Northern Virginians are. Most people in both regions are normal, perfectly nice people who know better than to define themselves by the patch of geography they happen to live on.
Alice: Hi, I'm from Northern Virginia.
Bob: Hi, I'm from Southern Virginia.
Alice: Uh oh... you're not an illiterate, racist redneck, are you?
Bob: Um, no. You're not a shallow, soulless trust-fund brat, are you?
Alice: Not really. Hey, do you want to go make fun of Californians instead?
Bob: Yeah, I can't stand those guys!

Northern Virginia is a vast wasteland of overpriced, cheaply build, homogenous real estate that is inhabited by "upper-crust of society" suburbanites with no sense of community or civic responsiblity to others. Generally the people who live here are rude, elitest, pampered, disconcerned, ineffectual and perfectly content with the aformentioned.
Welcome to Northern Virginia, please leave your soul at the Stafford County line.

Northern Virginia has some of the nations worst traffic jams. The area of Northern Virginia now legally extends from D.C. South to Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The only reason Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties are considered part of Northern Virginia is because of the vast commuters to D.C. (Stafford is not any better than Spotsylvania what so ever, in fact Stafford has less population then Spotsylvania. Stafford - 138,000 ; Spotsylvania 145,000) Anyways, There are over 2 million residents in the Northern Virginia region. There are many cultures and languages and also a decent music scene.
I live in Northern Virginia.

I'm moving to Northern Virginia.

Northern Virginia has thirty mile back ups.

Yes, Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties are now technically in Northern Virginia as of mid 2007. If you have a problem with it, move away.

A used-to-be Southern place.
Northern Vriginia used to be cultured and refined and genteel like the rest of Virginia and the South. Now its a bland, vanilla milkshake yuppyized Starbucks fragment of what it used to be. Northern Virginia used to look to RICHMOND- NOT D.C. as its cultural reference points. In the last 30 years or so, it has become a cultural void full of NEW MONEYED tranpslants who lack culture of any kind and who are ashamed to be Virginians. As well they should be, because they lack the grace and genteelity that once was Northern Virginia !
