A nerd is someone who does better in school than his/her classmates and wear stylish clothes. Nerds are prosecuted for their superior intellect. 99.9% of nerds are social even though they are not ecpected to. To be a nerd you have to be smart and stylish. If you wear outmoded clothes and you're smart than you're a neek, which grow up to be at least middle class nerds. Nerds are awsome. Do not get phy sical with a nerd from bedstuy or the south side. Nerds are also funny and some are popular. Some nerds look like regular people.
Dummies:Ha ha ha!
Nerd:At least I'm smart and well dressed.

Nerd as an insult means "you are smarter then me and that makes me feel inferior so I must cover up my inadequacy by making fun of you".
Billy Joe Bob teh Lumber Jack: How do you know all that?? NERD!!!

Translation: How do you know all that?? You are smarter then me and that makes me feel inferior so I must cover up my inadequacy by making fun of you!!!

A lifetime of insults because of their superior intellect and supposed lack of social skills. The latter is not always true.
Nerds do have a circle of friends from a variety of stereotypes. They may just prefer their own company, other nerds' company or may not have the time to socialise with others. Or, find other more overbearing people, for example, a jock, overbearing, rude, arrogant, and hypocritical to name a few.
It is also the nerds who invented the tv, computer, radio just amongst a small set of things, which are used in most of today's society for many social, yes, social events, for example, sports and sports clubs, which are used to a jocks' advantage (a touch hypocritical from those jocks who insult nerds)!
Nerds, through use of their brains, ideas, have contributed to a more advanced society, and their inventions and intelligence, despite their constant abuse and insults from others, are being made to good use by many non-nerds, and making their jobs more easier than it once was.
Nerds are often good-hearted people with righteous morals, and don't deserve the negative stereotypes they are betrayed as by jocks in particular.
It is nerds who have made other stereotypes (eg. jocks') jobs that much easier.
If we were all stereotyped the same way, wouldn't that make for a boring world? Or even a thoughtless, immoral one where we all have to be like this, that, etc etc?
Other stereotype: "Sometimes we tend to forget just how useful nerds have been to society."
"Good to make fun of because they're weak, unfit, don't have a life, are still virgins, and because we use the same stuff like computers, tv, cameras, radios that they were good for."
"And what do they ever get from anybody in return?"

An individual who:
1. Enjoys learning
2. Does not adhere to social norms

A nerd is *not*:
1. A geek. The circles overlap, but they are not the same.

2. Someone who wears fake "nerdy" glasses
3. Someone who wears suspenders, fake glasses, and bowties on "nerd" day.
4. Someone who thinks of themself as a nerd, yet cannot hold an intelligent debate.
5. If you are reading this article to determine whether you are a nerd or not, you are not. Nerds do not need to look up the definition of "nerd", it is a label with no consequence whatsoever, and nerds have better things to do than play along with societal stereotypes. That being said, if you merely want to see what people think of when they think of the word "nerd", because human thought processes, societal constructs, and philosophy are so interesting, consider yourself a nerd.

Synonyms include booksmart
Nerd is only a label. It doesn't matter whether you are one or are not one. Nobody cares either way, and you should not, either.

OK, as a nerd with pride I would like to set some things straight-

- Not to be confused with a geek. Geeks act like Nerds but do not possess the high intellectual capabilities of one.

-Nerds are NOT always ugly. In fact, they can be as good looking as anyone.

-Nerds do not always have bad fashion sense.

-Nerds are not always social rejects. In fact, alot of them are very popular and have friends (maybe even a girlfriend)

-Unfortunately, Nerds DO Genreally suck at sports. This does not mean they are fat or unfit, they are just uncoordinated.

-Nerds DO have a life. We do NOT spend all day studying or doing schoolwork. We can have fun too!

-Nerds get picked on alot in High School by Jocks but will be rich and respected as adults.

-Nerds are generally very smart and get good grades.

-Nerds generally enjoy Computers, Gaming, Technology, Sci Fi, Comics and other stuff like that. But they can also enjoy other things, like for example, someone who is a nerd I know is also a big cricket fan.

-Nerds are not repulsive antisocial creatures. That is jock propaganda.

-Nerds are usually good natured and kind. They are forgiving and treat everyone as equal.

As you can see, nerds are not like the ugly, unfit, fatass social rejects you see on TV. They are normal people who have an interest in technology etc.
Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Very wealthy people

That guy whose heads the jocks flush down the toilet.

If you know how to reprogram the computer you are reading this on, you are probably a nerd.
