ummm actually they are athletes. they have physical training and stuff to make them be able to take shoving the wheel left (and right if they're spinning out or on a road course or spinning out ON a road course). also, try sitting PERFECTLY still for 4 hours or not getting whiplash. these guys are in shape. Mike Waltrip runs 3 miles a day. others work out.

it's also a team sport. do they get out and change their own tires??? NO. pit crew. people that build their cars. all kinds of teamwork, driver is just the most glamorous position on the team.

and rednecks??? Kurt Busch is from Las Vegas. Tony Stewart (the best of all) is from Indy. there are tracks in CA (2), NV, NH, NY, KS, AZ, PA, MI, and other non-southeast-redneck states.

most motorcycles can't go 210MPH on talladega like Bill Elliot did... they could only do maybe 150 AND scrape off a kickstand.

and you say "circles". no "Ovals (rockingham)", "tri-ovals (talladega, daytona)", "d-shaped ovals (michigan)", "quad-ovals (atlanta)", "egg-shaped ovals (darlington)" and "triangles (pocono)". Indy is really a rectangle, but it's called an oval.

now for the Hypocrites... ok so FAST CARS are cool. STICK SHIFTS are cool. WINNING is cool. DRAG RACING (straight line... MORE boring than "Circles") is cool. but NASCAR isn't?

ok maybe there are too many ads on wheels, but you can't honestly deny that these guys are good. YOU try it... see how long YOU last. just any old car won't hold up... the specialized cars sometimes can't cut it. like when they get loose and spin out. or like when the engine dies. or when the car just plain SUCKS (like Dale JR. @ Las Vegas, Spring 2004)

actually WATCH a race and find out what really goes on under the hood and all around before you go "rednecks" or "pussies". i suggest Talladega or Martinsville if you even read this far.
DUDE DID U SEE THAT!!! Tony Stewart just won the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship!!! GO TONY!!!.... and he's 2nd right now in 2004 (as of Golden Corral 500)

The phrase "Nice Car" stated in a redneck accent.
Normal White American Citizen (Pointing to a brand new BMW): Wow! That's a nice car you've got there!

Redneck (Pointing to an old rusty pickup truck): Nope. That right there is a purty nascar.

Despite what Americans will tell you, it pales in comparison to Formula 1.

They will try to say that Nascar is better because it has more races, but if they bothered to think first they'd realise that F1 is a World Championship, meaning lots of travel that takes up time. Nascar is confined to America and they don't have to travel far to get to the next race.

Nascar is also very unpopular outside America, someone here said it's getting popular all over the world including Australia which is a complete lie. It's not shown on any TV channels in Australia, it gets absolutely no media coverage and it's widely regarded as the laughing stock of world motorsport.

They'll also say things like "I'd like to see you drive one at 300kph!". Well F1 cars can go over 370kph on road courses despite over 10 tonnes of total aerodynamic and mechanical downforce, and if you've seen the Monaco GP you'd know how skilled the drivers are to race at over 300kph with metal barriers right next to the track.

If they put F1 cars on an oval they'd be around the 400kph mark. In testing at airstrips they have been over 500kph before, the sorts of speeds top-fuel dragsters do and yet F1 cars have normally aspirated engines, no super or turbochargers, no ABS, no launch control, massive restrictions on aerodynamics and tyres and so on.

F1 is also the richest and most watched sport in the world, the teams spend a combined total of over $2.5 billion per year developing the cars and still make a profit from the sport. It's also watched on TV by an average of 2.5 billion people per race.

They'll also say that races are won at the start and there's no passing, which is total BS. People who say this are just proving how little they know about F1 because there's passing at every race, including the Monaco GP.

So all these idiots who think Nascar is the best are in denial, F1 is ahead in every area.
Rough costs of F1 teams combined (in American dollars):

Wind Tunnel Operation (wind tunnels run 24 hours a day, they never stop developing the aero of the cars): $70,210,000
Car Manufacturing costs: $20,110,000
Research & Development: $175,680,000
Operating cars at tests: $359,680,000
Team Salaries: $313,640,000
Engine budgets: $1,087,500,000
Driver Salaries: $141,100,000
Travel and Accomodation: $82,880,000
Corporate entertaining: $54,150,000
Operating cars at races: $232,060,000
Final cost: $2,537,010,000

Remember, they still make a profit, that's how popular F1 is around the world.

A league of 'stock car' racing, more popular to hillfolk and rednecks. NASCAR vehicles are modified to the point of not even looking like cars. most NASCARS are pretty ugly too with all those colors...yehhck. dont ever give a Hotwheels NASCAR to a baby, they might mistakee it for candy.

Nascar racing requires almost no skill.
if you want real racing, try Le Mans. Corvette, Aston Martin, Porsche, McLaren, Mercedes, Panaz, Viper... on mixed terrain tracks, with more than 1 turn, high speeds, and much cooler cars.
a Corvette C6.R or Mercedes Sauber C9 can chew up and crap out 10 NASCAR vehicles at once

NASCAR is the Greatest Form of Auto Racing. F1 is a NON-Competitive sport. I only saw Schumacher win 99.9% of all formula 1 races. NASCAR's Nextel Cup series has the most loyal fans and outnumbers the amount of Formula 1 races 36 to 19. The NASCAR Busch Series runs 34 races. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has 24 races. The NASCAR Wheelen Modified Series has 19 races.

NASCAR has the most loyal fans, who are loyal to the sponsors of NASCAR. NASCAR is also looking to build a speedway in the New York City Area.

NASCAR divers like to show up to greet their fans, not only at the NASCAR tracks, but at local tracks, they even race in some events to give the fans a look at their skills.

NASCAR has alot of superstars, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr are NASCAR's most popular drivers. Jeff Gordon won 4 NASCAR Cup Championships. Dale Earnhardt Jr won the 2004 Daytona 500. Jeff Gordon became the first NASCAR driver to host Saturday Night Live in 2002.
