Other band members include Mikey Way, Frank Iero, and Ray Toro.
Unfortunately, they broke up today, March 23rd, 2013
They are simply inspirational, and they'll be missed.
I love MCR so much. I'm sad they broke up.
My Chemical Romance is inspirational.

My Chemical Romance is a band from New Jersey, whom grew up on the same types of music as your parents. Social Distortion, KISS, Queen, David Bowie, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister; things that were big in the times that they were kids. What makes them "emo" or "goth"? Because they have a particular liking to the color black or morbid objects and themes? Bullshit. That just makes them a tad dark, not "emo fags who whine about how their lives suck". If you say that, you're a dumbshit. Gerard himself, as have the rest of the band, have said numerous times that they aren't emo, nor goth. If anything, if we were to label them, they would be violent pop or violent alternative music.

Gerard and Bert are not dating, nor have they ever. In fact, they aren't even friends anymore. They are just two guys who met while playing and singing the things that they love. What makes them different from every other rock band? If you think that Twisted Sister or KISS are "great rock bands", and think that My Chemical Romance is a "gay, fag-like band" because of the fact that they wear make up--then you're a retard. Ever heard of HAIR METAL? Or SEEN the make up KISS wears!
Frank is not "gay for Gerard". He's engaged, for heaven's sake! Just because they give slight pecks-of-a-kiss does not make them a gay couple. It's for jokes and giggles, and for the fans because that's what they want. THAT, and it's a free country to be bisexual, so saying, "I would date Gerard," should be okay and not "offensive". But, same as before, with the make up and the hair metal statement; bands like KISS and such played on fans' very emotions like that, too. Watch a live preformance, or something.

Have you ever seen them live? I have. Gerard himself talks about this subject on why people try to label them emo. They're doing what they love to do, play their own music. Who cares if it's dark? "Good rock" and "punk" talks about getting shitfaced and having sex, the government and death. Get over yourselves if you think they're emo. They're not. They're just guys doing what they love.

And, you know what? Listen to the "good" rock bands talk on interviews, and such. Listen to them and their theories about modern day rock bands. I've heard several about My Chemical Romance, and they were all good. GOOD! They don't have a problem with them, so why do you?

And, please. Don't say you want "their babies" or "to rape them" unless you're completely and utterly joking. It gets old, and I'm sure they hear it every day.
My Chemical Romance is not an emo band, but a group of guys doing what they love; playing music. What makes them any different from the bands you grew up on? Not much. Maybe a tad more make up depending on if you were a fan of KISS or Twisted Sister, or Scorpion, but that's about it. Get over yourselves. If you don't like them, don't listen to them.

"Be Yourself, Don't take anyone's shit and never let them take you alive..." Gerard Way.

"If for one minute you think you're better than a sixteen year old girl in a Green Day t-shirt, you are sorely mistaken. Remember the first time you went to a show and saw your favorite band. You wore their shirt, and sang every word. You didn't know anything about scene politics, haircuts, or what was cool. All you knew was that this music made you feel different from anyone you shared a locker with. Someone finally understood you. This is what music is about." Gerard Way.

My Chemical Romance are a band from NJ. I;m not going to attempt to give them a specific genre, because they have many influences. Guitar wise they use a mixture of punk and metal riffs, mainly due to the bands love of bands like the Misfits, and metal bands such as iron Maiden. Lyrically, Gerard Way writes in a style similar to that of Morrisey, using metaphors and story-telling to get across his point.

In reading the other definitions here, I was quite angered by the many comments about the band slitting their wrists, or encouraging their fans to do so, because one of the most important messages the band gives out is that self-harm is not acceptable. "No-one should ever feel the need to hurt themselves, because the rest of the world hurts you badly enough." They hate the idea of self-harm, and will always encourage their fans to get some help. Regardless of whether or not you personally like the music, people should never insult a band that to someone else could mean so much, and could have helped someone else so much. I don't like Slayer, to me slayer just sounds like noise, but I won't insult them because to someone they could have been a great help, could inspire them, or could just mean a lot to someone.
Band members are Gerard Way, Frank Iero, Mikey Way, Ray Toro, and Bob Bryar. Yes, they are all quite good looking, but that isn't what the music is about, and they get quite uncomfortable about the attention to their looks.
They're very nice guys, I hung out without them quite a bit a few weeks ago, and none of them once mentioned a wish to slit their wrists, mainly they just took the mickey out of each other, and tried to set me on fire by dropping their cigarettes on my shoes.
Whilst all of them hate homophobia, and make a point of standing up for anti-prejudiced feelings, none of them are actually gay, just open-minded people, who stand up for others who can't stand up for themselves.
They aren't emo, please research genres and learn correct definitions before you label bands as emo.
"He said "Son when, you grow up, will you be, the savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned."

He said "will you defeat them, your demons and all the non-believers, the plans they have made.""

"We'll Carry on
Though your dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart I cant contain it
The anthem wont explain it."

"Defiant to the end, we hear the call"

My Chemical Romance-Not exactly depressing lyrics in my opinion.

Welcome to the Black Parade-Possibly the most uplifting song I've heard.

Great band, not punk, not emo, not goth, not pop. Please stop saying how much you hate "those emo losers" because if you do you don't actually listen/know MCR.
Punk elitist: I hate MCR because they're emo

Emo fuck: OMGZ!!11!!!!oneone I LUV MCR BECAUSE GERARD SHARES MY PAIN AND HATE FOR MYSELF!!!!111

Me: Uh, I really like them. Good music. End of story.

Despite the negatives people attach on the band they've actually done a lot of good. MCR's music has one of the biggest and most devoted fan bases in the industry. I know, that weird girl or guy in your school who likes anime listens to them, so they must suck right? But don't judge a book by it's cover. Fact of the matter is, whenever I'm feeling depressed I'll listen to MCR. I've read countless internet posts from kids who are adament that MCR prevented them from cutting themselves, shooting up, and even killing themselves. Call them what you will but they're one of the few bands I've heard of in the past decade that can have such a profound affect on people.
Suicide hotlines should just have My Chemical Romance albums playing on repeat.

A (in my opinion) very talented group of guys who despise the word 'emo'. The amazing band consists of Ray Toro - lead guitar, Frank Iero - rhythm guitar, Mikey Way - bass, Bob Bryar - drums, & the wonderful Gerard Way - vocals.

I am aware that a lot of you who read this will be like 'oh its an emo kid' or 'they're so emo' BUT. They're not emo, if you actually listen to the lyrics, they are an ANTI suicide band. For example, the song Famous Last Words states: "I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this word alone." & So on & so forth.

My Chemical Romance has 3 studio albums - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love; Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge; & The Black Parade. 2 Live CD/DVDS - Life On The Murder Scene & The Black Parade Is Dead!

Their most popular songs are Helena, I'm Not Okay (I Promise), Welcome to the Black Parade, Teenagers, & Famous Last Words.
I personally did not hear all of their songs on the radio, I found them, so there may have been more mainstream songs, I don't know.

MCR (as they are often abbreviated) formed in the time of 9/11. Gerard was on his way to work in NY & saw the bodies falling/jumping out of the building. At that point he though what am I doing with my life?
He decided to call up some old friends & formed the band. The original drummer, Matt Pelissier, was in the band when it formed, obviously. He later was fired because of his poor performance & lack of devotion to the band.

As for where the name came from, Mikey & Gerard were working at Barnes & Noble. Mikey saw the words 5 Tales of Chemical Romance on the back or inside of a book (whose author I forget). When he joined the band, he thought he should add My to it to give it a twist. From then on, they were known as MCR, My Chem, & My Chemical Romance of course.

Future plans - 2009: They recently filmed a music video for their cover of Bob Dylan's 'Desolation Row'. MCR recorded this song for the movie 'The Watchmen', which will be in theaters in March. My Chem is also set to record an album sometime this year, claimed to be 'early 2009'.

In conclusion, a great band... in my opinion.
Normal 11 year old: OMGOMGOMG DON'T YOU LOVE MILEY CYRUS!!!!!!!!!
