Incredibly brutal, violent and effective martial art originating from Thailand, originally taught to Thai soldiers as part of Krabi Krabong.

Famous for its mind-blowingly fast and powerful kicks.
I saw some Muay Thai practitioner kill a guy with his bare hands.

Muay Thai is usually regarded as a very hard, external style. However, especially because of its roots in heavily Buddhist Thailand, some consider it to have a spiritual aspect as well. Thai boxers typically perform some Buddhist rituals before beginning a match. Practicing Muay Thai is a vigorous workout and produces tremendous cardiovascular endurance.
Muay Thai involves boxing techniques, hard kicking, and knee and elbow strikes. Low kicks to the thighs are a very distinguishing technique used frequently in Muay Thai. Stand up grappling is also used and allowed in the ring. Muay Thai practitioners develop a very high level of physical conditioning developed by its practitioners.

Actually muay thai kickboxing is not known for speed at all, but actually the shear power that comes from each blow. If the moves happen to be fast its because a dude who IS fast is useing them. Muay Thai is called "the science of eight limbs" because the hands, elbows, knees, and legs are used to strike the opponent. Anyone not smart enough to realize an elbow or knee to the gut is gonna fuck you up is a retard. Don't believe me? Next time your beating the shit out of someone 30 pounds lighter than you let the kid elbow you in the face or neck before you hit him. He might just end the fight right there. Heres some stuff I copy and pasted from wikipedia, a source that I trust.

Because of the power involved with Muay Thai techniques, fighters do not often block strikes like in other martial arts. Fighters prefer to evade attacks by stepping out of range or moving toward their opponent in order to buffer techniques such as kicks.

Though the high kicks to the head appear spectacular during a competition, insiders of the sport claim that the elbows and the knees are most damaging -- sometimes deadly.

The low kick uses a circular movement of the entire body to kick the opponent's leg with the upper part of the shin. When not correctly defended against, this technique often leads to the end of the fight, as the opponent can not stand anymore after a few low-kicks.

getting hit with a shin kick from a Muay Thai fighter is often likened to being hit by a baseball bat.

Other forms of martial arts when placed against the supieror techniques and training of Muay Thai prove to be obsolete. Such cases are in the many fights held in Thailand and internationally each year. These such forms of the arts are kung fu, san shou, karate and tae kwon do.

(for the record tae kwon do is worthless, liken it to yoga and thats basically what you learn from it)

In the last decade, Muay Thai has enjoyed a boost in popularity in the whole world as it turned out to be very effective in popular no holds barred events, such as Pride Fighting Championship and the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) competitions. It is widely recognized that a combination of a grappling art, such as Judo or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, with Muay Thai is very effective in such fights.

Yeah that shit sounds pretty dangerous to me. I'd appreciate never haveing to read another bullshit poste from assholes like you. If you don't know what the fuck your talking about then shut up.

Muay Thai Kickboxing is better than the rest of the shit out there. Some people think that if you wiegh more your chances of winning are increased...no shit! This is a comparison of martail arts not wieghts you dumb fucks. I have no doubt a 40 pound girl would get her ass kicked by a 70 pound class bully regardless of what she knows. on the other hand a 170 pound muay thai kickboxer against 200 pounds of any other fighting style, assuming they are both masters of there art I'd put money on the muay thai. Well unless were talking mishima style fighting karate complete with lightning bolts and stuff, but thats a whole different story. If your looking for a nonlethal alternative to a handgun just buy a mace can. With that I bet you could woop any proffesional boxer, fighter, hell even sumo.

A martial arts developed in Thailand, even as a modern sport its very effective. developed from Krabi Krabong, it became Muay Boran and had a lot more moves in its arsenal. the system was based on the fact that if u lose ur weapons during war, u have to quickly dispose of ur opponent becuz there might be more comin towards u, which is why the moves were developed to be so powerful that it can kill the enemy in one strike. The practice was kept up largely by Buddhist monks who were the keepers and teachers of all arts both practical and spiritual. Temples began holding fights during festive occasions. As every Thai man is expected to live as a monk at least once in his life the art grew in popularity among common people, so much so that it was said that any man worth his salt would practice it.

now as a sport it is very popular, and a main source of income for sum familys in thailand. its name Muay Thai basically means Thai Boxing or Thai fist, its sumtimes viewed as an insult if u say kickboxing instead or Thai Kickboxing, though it is forgiven as ignorance is bliss (yet u look retarded to my ppl.. and asia.. and ppl who know about martial arts...)

Japanese kickboxing was developed from Muay Thai, just without the Thai parts (music, Ram Muay etc) and has kept the same moves and principle, famous praticioners are alot of the Japanese fighters in K-1 lol (MASATO!!!!)

it has nuthin to do wit american kickboxing, becuz that came from an american who "learned" karate, so ppl who wanted full contact can have it, and yet bitched about muay thai havin knees and elbows WEN KARATE HAS THEM TOO!!!, and is a gr8 shame to the martial arts world (poor japanese, myt aswell go and learn boxercise) please dnt be offended, its just u guys show off for no reason wit ur stars on ur trousers and... thats all u got, and they look terrible and has no reason AND U GOT PADS FUCKIN PADS ON UR FEET THAT AINT FULL CONTACT ITS JUST OVER THE TOP SPARRING...
Muay Thai - "Every part of the Thai is blessed with venom. Even with his bare hands, he can fell nine or ten opponents. But his Lord was incompetent and lost the country to the enemy. If he would have been any good, there was no way the City of Ayutthaya would ever have fallen."

Muay - originated from the Cambodian/Khmer number for "one". if you know Khmer, you should know this.

Thai - is a recently new made up name for Thailand in which was adopted less then 100 years ago. They were originally called the Siam, from which the term Siamese cat was derived from
an ancient martial/warrior's art to protect the Cambodia/Khmer Empire and used as a fighting sport for entertainment, but now has been mislabel as muay thai as a marketing ploy to try give credit to Thailand instead of Cambodia (the Khmers).

Muay Thai is a very close quarters art, using a lot of knees and elbows, usually in which either one or both fighters end up with fucked up faces.
Taekwondo fighter: *does some fancy ass kick*
Muay Thai fighter: *simply blocks and throws an overhand right and a knee to the face and knocks him clean the fuck out*

one of the most brutal martial arts ever known to man. it's moves are very diverse ranging from punches, kicks to knee/elbow strikes to grapplings, triangle chokes and leg locks. every move is meant to KO the opponent and create huge amounts of force. overall, the kind of martial art art the one would learn to kick major ass.
