A very judged and ridiculed type of awsome music. Often put off because of it's sheer intensity, and harsh lyrics, metal is one of the few genres of music that can take the criticism and spit it back out, twice as lound and twice as angry. Often metal bands are looked at as un-inteligent brutes, but in retro-spective, they are some of the smartest and most politicly aware type's of people around. A great example of this is Dee Snider (Twisted Sister). In his court case back in the eighties, the judges and prosecutors had not readied themselves for anything. Thinking him to be totaly outclassed and outsmarted, they sat back and watched as he enterd the court room. So they though, a lamb to the slaughter. But upon his arival, he sat down calmly, pulled out his papers, and deliverd such a rousing case that the judge and the prosecutors were dumbstruck. They were left speachless, and without a claim to make, they were forced to close the case against him, and drop the charges on him.

Many other Metal artists are looked down upon because of their music. Eg: Marilyn Manson, Till Lindmann, Alice Cooper, Danny Filth, Cory Tailor, ect...\

But In the end, its a great type of music, consisting of many different sub-genres that make it very diverse. Eg: Speed, Thrash, Grindcore, Industrial, Neo-classical, Death, Black, Swedish, Alternitive, Nu, Power, Progressive, Folk, Glam, Gothcore, Symphonic, Techno and Opratic. Suited to many different types of people. Thus, giving the term Metalhead a whole new meaning.

A type of music characterized by it's cacophonous wall of sound and accelerated tempo which is achieved through distorted electric guitars playing fast-paced riffs, with the driving drumbeat often utilizing hypersonic double bass rhythms and emphasizing the continuous pumping action, the bass guitar is often playing similar to the guitar, but more with the drums, so as to add to the overall heavyness and depth. It can manifest in many different forms and the spectrum of intensity is usually quite varied. From slow and heavy melodic grooves, to complex and precise blinding rhythms, odd time changes, and sheer brutality.. metal comes in many shapes and sizes. One common trait of metal is to have vocals dealing with dark subject matter, often sung with anger, aggression, and conviction in the form of screaming. Melodic smooth vocals are also accepted. Solos are an integral part of metal music, as the icing on the cake to complement the heavy intensity of the songs and add more depth and individuality. Real metal has a solo in every song, usually scales and arpeggios played with some changes often in 8th, 16th, or 32nd notes..if only a few quick licks. Metal is progressive and dynamic, and usually provokes feelings that are therapeutic to the listener. Metal is rock music that has evolved.

A misunderstood type of music that can not easily be appreciated if you haven't heard much of it. It may take a long time for you to warm up to it, but as soon as you do, there's no turning back. Contrary to belief, metalheads are not stupid or angsty - that's just throwing around labels.

a great type of music which has been ruined by too many sub-genres and too many stupid people bitching & moaning & making vacuous statements about what "is or isn't" real metal. They hang around message boards and give each other blowjobs & snowballs.

Movement of music that started essentially with the heavy rock movements of such bands as but not limited to: The Cream, The Spiders, Iron Butterfly, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zepplin, and Kiss. The sound took a larger heavier sound with bands like Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Pentagram, AC/DC and such bands. But Black Sabbath was the most respected and possibly the darkest of the lot. This is considered the Classical Metal era between the mid sixties to the late seventies. From there on out, when the eighties rolled around, Speed metal became popular with the NWOBHM movement, and thrash metal evolved with such bands as Metallica, Exodus, Primus, Trauma, Megadeth, Testament et cetera. During the 80s a more underground movement of slow metal began to evolve called Doom Metal by such bands as Candlemass, Pentagram and the like. Also in the mid 80s a new form of metal evolved from thrash called Death Metal, and used screams, and heavy notes, and shortly after a new style formed yet again from death metal called grind metal or grindcore. The 90's rolled around, and Groove Metal began evolving with such bands as Pantera, and even Ozzy with his new guitarist took upon himself a slower style more groove/doom based rather than thrash. Then around the late 90s the groove and doom metal scene flourished and produced such bands as crowbar, down, and black label society. Also around the 90s a new form of Metal formed, New Metal.
