A club with a wide but close nit & extremely loyal fanbase. After a period of problems in the 80's Leeds had been tagged with a hoolliganistic image which the club has worked hard over the years to shed. Recent events such as the stabbings of two Leeds fans when the club played Galatasary as well as the financial problems have only led to the fanbase becoming closer and stronger.
Misunderstood by many (such as the 'definitions' already posted) LUFC fans are the strongest and most passionate in the world. The very fact that the recent relegation from the Premiership resulted in mass celebration only showed the fans/clubs spirit to survive.

Started life in 1919 as a provincial association football club in a city dominated by rugby league. In the early 60's through to mid 70's transformed into a European powerhouse by the man who should have been knighted Don Revie.
Leeds United will always be around because Leeds United will always be well supported. Now 'early 2005' a 2nd division (Championship) outfit and Leeds United can still proudly boast one of the best away supports in the entire UK. Furthermore Leeds United will always be around because the footballing media of England will always need someone to hate.

Although many hate Leeds United non can deny that they are possibly one of the highest ranked teams in history, coming ninth overall in the Premier League Rankings since its conception (as of 2008/09 season). They have won the first division, now the Premier League, 3 times; won 6 cups in English League Football; won the Fairs Cup, now UEFA Cup, 3 times; were cheated out of the UEFA Champions League once; been crowned UEFA co-efficent Top Club 3 times.
In the 2008/09 season they were named as the club with the best home record in the United Kingdom, better than scum united (aka Manchester United (see also scum, wankers and fuck tards)), Liverpool and Chelsea.
Have often been cheated out of many things by the UEFA and FA (see your football knowledge for details), and have had no less than 10 players inducted into the National Hall Of Fame, more than 97% of British teams.
Have created songs that many associate with other teams now, for instance Leeds United fans came up with "Glory Glory Leeds United" before Manchester United and Tottenham used it too, and the song Marching On Together.
Also have been credited with the creation of the "We are the champions, champions of Europe" chant that many manchester united fans, amongst others, have seemed to have stolen now.
Absolutely the best supported team in the country, and no-one can argue with that. They still get a sold out 37,000 stadium in League One for a normal league game, which is more than most Premiership, European and Championship teams.

We may not have won as many trophies and league as man united, yet ask the question to yourself, if man united were in the League One division, would they still get a sold out stadium? Leeds United Association Football Club. Formed in 1919 following the demise of Leeds City AFC who were thrown out of division two following financial irregularities. Their place was taken by Port Vale. Leeds United were elected into Division Two the following year. Won the FA Cup in its Centenary year. Last winners of the old First Division title before it became the Premiership. However, currently beginning life in old Division Three for the first time in their history.
