A supposedly non-profit radio station in Seattle which in reality gets funding and the security of a safety net from Seattle-area billionaire Paul Allen. The station was originally the official radio station of the University of Washington until it was taken over by private interests who still receive the same funding from the University and originate with Washington State tax dollars even though UW students have nothing to do with the station and several DJs are paid in the six-figure bracket. Every 4 months the station has a pledge fund to get even more money from people from around the world with the promise that their contribution will "power kexp", despite the enormous amount of funding the station already gets from Washington tax payers and Paul Allen.
