J. CREW is a simplistic, preppy, New England-style clothing brand worn usually by middle to upper-middle class young people who desire classic, comfortable clothing. They do not make flashy clothing with big logos branded on the chest. Instead, their clothing is relatively understated despite somewhat high retail price tags.
"That was a pretty cool argyle sweater he/she was wearing."
"It was probably from J.CREW. He/She is such a prep."
An actually preppy store, rather than an inaccurate emulation of the preppy lifestyle (i.e. A&F, AE, HCo). Has really cute clothes: preppy essentials such as bright polos, madras shorts, flip flops, oxfords, chinos and sportscoats for men and sundresses, headbands, and ribbon belts for women. The clothes aren't inexpensive, yet are of very good quality.
A&F shopper: this torn denim mini is like soooo PREP!
J.Crew customer (to friend): Honestly, the misconception these nouveau-riche kids have of our lifestyle is ridiculous. Let's go get some shopping done, though: the cable-knit cardigan I saw in J. Crew last week will go well with my pearl necklace and bright headband.
extremely classy, preppy clothing
j.crew is not disgusting
A high-quality clothing store meant for classy, mature adults. I don't know why people are saying that J. Crew is a preppy, bitch store. It isn't. They have really nice flip flops, knee-high socks, and cashmere gloves though.
I look classy in these Italian leather loafers, eh?
A clothing company started in VA that makes good clothes without labels. This is important, as any asshole can wear a tiny polo on their shit and people will think they're elitist. The problem is, everyboy knows this. By making it impossible to recognize jcrew unless you already know the brand, you launch yourself into another stratosphere.
Girl 1: Woah- that dude is wearing a polo shit. He must have loot. But his friend there is just wearing a regular polo with no label. What a poor bastard.
Girl 2: You must me homeless, girl 1. Don't you recognize the cut and collar? He's wearing Jcrew bitch. He doesn't need a label.
A store filled with quality, high-class merchandise geared toward young women with a disposable income and a taste for preppy clothes.
Sarah: OMG! A new J-Crew store just opened at the mall!
Tina: AHHHHH Let's go!!! I must have 12 pairs of flip-flops and some new chinos!

"Oh, I got these pants from J. Crew!"
