A pretty much awesome series of books by J.K. Rowling. The 6th book is the best one out, where you find out what Horcruxes are. If you don't know what Horcruxes are, YOU ARE A FUCKIN BITCH! 1. A series of books by JK (Joanne Kathleen) Rowling, and widely regarded as the most popular book series in the world. Originally written for children, the series is now read by adults and children alike, and indeed in the UK two editions are published for each book: the 'Children's Edition' and the 'Adults' Edition'; the only difference between the two is the more 'mature' cover on the latter, to make adults less self-conscious reading a children's book. There are currently six main sequence books available in the series, which are, in reading order:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (renamed Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone in the US)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

The seventh and final book has at the time of writing not been released or named, and is expected around Summer 2007.

2. The protagonist in the aforementioned series, a boy raised by Muggles but actually of wizarding parentage, who is sent to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and discovers numerous dark secrets about his past throughout the course of the books. His character evolves significantly through the course of the books, from an innocent but abused young boy with no knowledge of the wizarding world (circa Book 1) to a rebellious teenager who is far more comfortable in the wizarding world than out of it (circa Book 3) to a depressed teenager with the weight of a horrible fate laid upon him (circa Book 5) to a wilful, strong person (although known to exhibit Spiderman Syndrome), determined to face what fate has placed against him (circa Book 6)
(1) Harry Potter book six broke the record for first-day book sales - a record previously held by book five.

(2) Harry Potter has become a powerful wizard, and stands a good chance of defeating Lord Voldemort.

Harry Potter is a boy that was marked at birth by Voldemort, which tried to murder little Harry as a child and failed. Though, he did end up killing Harry's parents leaving Harry alone with his evil Aunt, Uncle and Cousin. Then he finds that he is a wizard from this big cool guy named Hagrid. Then he goes to this school for magic folk every year, ending up in wacky mishaps with his two best friends Ron and Hermione. That's not all, he has to kill Voldemort because of this prophecy made by this old sheer that teaches at his school because if he don't terrible things could happen....now it's up to Harry to save the wizarding world.
Harry Potter is fucking awesome...yo.

Series of books that is getting a lot more criticism than it really needs. Sure, the plots or the writing can be peurile, but I think saying that they are a waste of time that could be spent understanding "true works of literature" is bullshit. Enjoy your books, unless you happen to be a high school english teacher and assign what the "critics" (a.k.a., 60 year old men who couldn't find a better job) claim is classic and complex.
Person: Harry Potter is childish and a piece of crap all around.
Other person: I wasn't paying attention, I was busy staring at the stick up your ass.

A series of books originally aimed at children and young adults that has become steadily more popular before being massacred by Chris Coumbus, Steve Kloves (die) and their team of monkeys.

Long series short; 10 year old orphan Harry discovers he's a wizard with the help of a big (really big) hairy bloke, and soon begins his education at Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Much wackiness ensues, and he finds himself face to face with the baddie who killed his parents.

For some reason, people always find the need to compare the Potter series to Lord of The Rings. Why? They're too very different series, and besides, Potter is much better.
1: Who is this Harry Potter fellow?
2: Pfft. You retarded Muggle.
