this word is commonly referred to a person who is attempting to express his or her feelings in a very loud and boisterous manner. this person on a daily basis will act as if they are consistently on a mission even though they may be doing something that is an everyday task, such as eating an apple. this person may crunch on that apple very loudly while making very satisfactory faces. this person tries to make a sturdy, firm point out of something that to other normal people would seem ridiculous and unimportant. while a "hmph" is trying to make their unimportant point, the individulas in the surrounding area will undoubtably laugh at this person and talk amongst themselves at how ridiculous they look on a daily basis. this person walks with bounce in their step, and when you see a hmph in the hallway, yell HMPH!! you could use this to call someone a name; look at that hmph!! wow, he's a hmph.
a hmph would do this *shake his head around a lot while expressing a point or suddenly occuring thought* |

Something said while walking with another person after seeing something out of the ordinary. Usually this expression comes with a side glance that is met by the other persons eyes. This occurs only when somehing is funny, but too weird for words. When I was walking down the street with Susy the other day their was this weird fat guy with a speedo and an apron that said kiss the cook on. All we could do is look at eachother and say hmph.
