A Goth is someone who likes the different side of things. They have their own choice in music, and they don't care if no-one else likes it or not. "Real" goths are not depressing and suicidal like the posers you see around town. Goths are fun to be around with and aren't afraid to laugh at themselves every so often. They don't all worship Satan and aren't evil despite what some ignorant people might say. Goths don't dress alike either. They like to create their own unique style. Goths are also very intelligent and creative. A lot of them are writers and artists. Goths DON'T envy the popular people. They are what they are because it makes them happy. Goths would rather stay who they are and be among the so called "freaks" than be like everyone else and be popular. They understand that there are more important things in life than popularity, and usually succeed in life while the popular ones don't become much of anything.
If someone becomes "goth" because they couldn't get any friends or are depressed and angry all the time, they are posers.
A goth will walk alone where a chav will hide inside his herd and though the goth may take a beating at least that goth was never a coward.
A goth will insult only those who have earnt it whereas a chav will insult people for things as shallow as the clothes they are wearing.
A goths insult will be witty and cutting, a chavs insult more often than not will consist of the chav making a repulsive noise.
A goth will enrich their mind, a chav will watch soaps.
In the morning, a goth will ask themselves “what do I want to wear?” whilst a chav will ask themselves “what in this selection of clothes is the most acceptable thing to wear?”
A goth will have a friend because they are good for someone, a chav will have a friend because that someone is good for them.
A goth approaches new situations with a willingness to think and find the best way forward, a chav will react with aggression to that which it does not already know.
A goth will listen to music that is meaningful to their life and thought provoking, a chav will listen to music which will tell him how to behave.
- There is actually no specific way to describe goth, because it really is unique...but I just wanted to make it clear to people that "Goth" isn't all evil and blood and gore and whatever, because goths can have fun, laugh and enjoy themseves.
This is all my point of view, and sure, everyone has their own, and that's fine with me, just as long as I don't get dissed for what I believe, because that's prejudism, and it's usually the goths that suffer prejudism, because people think all they do is waste their lives away by slitting their wrists and posing around looking all scary, but it really isn't so.
Goths have no interest in popularity whatsoever. They think outside the box. People aspire to be popular and dress in certain ways that are 'in' with everyone else simply because it has never occurred to them how pointless societies values really are. Society assumes that what another has thought of, is better than what you can think of on your own but why is one mind better than another? Goths make the greatest friends. Goths have the unusual ideas. Goths just don't suffer from the same afflictions of 'normality'.
A goth can tolerate the surrounding world.
A Chav makes fun of anything that crosses his way, unless it suits him.
A goth can dress however he feels on that day, while a Chav only wears what his friends will accept as "cool".

Goths do not and have NEVER liked metal of any kind. Metal fans who call themselves Goth are wannabes. Perioid. Goth generally ONLY listen to Gothic music which sounds NOTHING like metal. Goths hate metalheads and Goths hate emo kids. 96% of the people who use the word Goth have NO IDEA what it means.
Goths think metal fans are white trash.

A "Goth" is, loosely speaking, one who decides to separate from the mainstream culture for varying reasons (such as dissatisfaction with modern society, a will to be different, or just a liking to the styles whether it be music or visual or social).

Goths are not defined as someone who slashes their own wrists or sets fires to schools, that is what is called a masochist, vandal or sadist. A Goth, in modern society, is merely a lifestyle.

Although their image and demeanor consistently appears cold and reclusive, this is but a shell and Goths are more commonly found to be nicer than the 'average' stranger, due to their tendency to have intellectual/educated backgrounds, and artistic divulgences including the visual arts and musical talents.

A 'pure' Goth epitomizes beauty not in the way that you would say "wowzers she is A BEAUTY", but in the way that the ideal Goth strives for clear skin and pure complexion; the dark hair and garb serves to enhance the fair complexion of pure skin.

People carrying "Gothic" qualities does not relate whatsoever to their personality and/or attitudes towards other people, rather, their attitudes towards the many forms of art, community, and individuality.

---

As you can probably tell by now, I myself am a Goth. And a Christian (strange combination you say? *shrugs*). I don't cut myself, I don't swear, I don't think offensively of other people of all shapes and sizes (and colours et cetera) but I strive to be Me in a world where everyone and everything is just a copy of a copy of a copy..

There is freedom of speech, there is freedom of personality, and a natural Goth embraces the freedom of image.
Striving to be Me in a world so full of Clones..

REAL GOTHS
...Are victims of streotypical assumptions
Do not worship Satan
Are not depressed
Are quite happy
Can have friends
Don't always listen to Gothic music
Dress how they want to dress, not always in black
Don't sit around complaining about not having friends, they don't want friends, a real Goth is happy being a social misfit
Often don't want to be referred to as a Goth

POSER GOTHS (Sometimes known as emo)
Will call themselves goth, note they don't use a capital letter to start the word
Pretend to worship Satan, although its rare that they actually believe in Him
Will act depressed all the time, no matter what he/she is really feeling
Will dress in clothes purely from Hot Topic, Planet 13, Starsnstripes and places like that
One Band Wonders, think that they're so Goth coz they listen to a band that is sometimes labelled as Gothic, such as Slipknot, where as in actual fact Slipknot are nu/death metal
Dress only in black, pure attention seekers
Poser Goth: You're such a poser. You think you're so goth, but you don't even listen to Slipknot!
Goth: ....okay..like I would care what you think
Poser Goth: You make me sick! You're not even wearing black! And you call yourself a goth!
Goth: I never called myself a Goth, that was a label invented by people like you, real people don't need labels

Culture devoloped from punk in 1979. Sterotype wears black clothes, nail polish, eyeliner and has black hair and listens to the very un-goth Marilyn Manson.
Many types of goth. Examples:

CYBER GOTH
Loves plastic, nightclubs and the future. Loves (gasp!) bright colors and usually has plastic hair.

VAMPIRE GOTH:
Often Satanic. Sucks blood from partner and has sex in coffins.

ROMANTIC GOTH:
Very elegant. Wears lots of velvet and lace. Aims for Medieval/Victorian look. Loves vampires and poetry.

POSER GOTH:
Listens to Marilyn Manson. Wears only black. Is a right saddo.

Goth music: Bauhaus, The Cure, Switchblade Synphony, etc. MARILYN MANSON AND LINKIN PARK ARE NOT GOTH MUSIC.

Remember, GOTH is just a label made up by a bunch of losers to call the darker ones.. Real 'goths' do not label themselves. A self-proclaimed goth = big poser. Gothic stereotype = morbid, suicidal and black-clad. Not always true. You could dress like PARIS HILTON and still be part of the 'goth' scene.
'That dress is so 'gothic!' (Phrase often used by preps when entering poser clothing store Hot Topic.

'I'm not a goth.' said Lulu.
