This is a wooden [waster] that I got from purpleheart armoury, it is made of hickory and is meant for training for long hours. The Romans called this a [Rudis], it was a symbol of freedom for a gladiator. Something that a gladiator entered training with, and thus, left training with. It is a very powerful lesson.
My favorite type of gladius, the Mainz Gladius
The roman gladius was used mainly for stabbing, as their short profile allowed them to glide quickly through the air and penetrate through armor.
Hispaniesis, Mainz, Fulham, Pompeii.
A breakoff design of the mainz type gladius is called the Mainz-Reingonheim.
