A person who holds that inequality exists between men and women, with women being treated as the inferior sex. American Feminists accomplished much in the 20th century, winning the write to vote, to work, and taking major steps towards total gender equality(we still aren't there, but the inequalities go both ways).

From it's very inception, there was bound to be problems down the road. If you have a ideology solely dedicated to solving the problems faced by one gender, it's going to ignore the problems faced by the opposite sex. For instance, child custody, prison sentences(women on average get 40% less prison time for equivalent crimes), cases of abuse(males being abused is seen as joke in american society), and divorce. Females in the USA hold a major edge over males in these areas, and yet I've never seen any feminists protests or even bring up any of these inequalities.

There still many places on earth where the term "patriarchy" would serve as an apt description of how women are treated. But when it comes to first world nations, especially the US, patriarchy just doesn't cut it.

One would think that any true feminist would focus on helping women in places where acid is thrown on a girl's face if she leaves home without her husband, instead of focusing on how the media "sexualizes" women, or how this movie portrays women as weak or that game portrays women as horny bimbos.

Just seems a bit silly to me.

A feminist is a person who believes that men and women are equal (though not necessarily the same), and should be entitled to equal rights, equal treatment, and equal opportunity.

A person who supports equality between the sexes. Feminists can be (and are) women, men, and transpeople. Feminists are black, white, and everything in between. Feminists are straight, gay, and bisexual. Feminists understand that inequality effects everyone.

Feminists ARE NOT Nazis, or women who can't get laid. The very existence of these views is proof that feminism still has a lot of work to do.

Some feminists shave, and some don't. Some are "fashionable", some aren't. Just like any other group of people.

Not all feminists are lesbians, though lesbians can be feminists. The ongoing Civil Rights movement and the push for gay marriage are often associated with feminism as each cause expresses a very sane desire to create world recognition of our intrinsic equality.

A feminist is a person, most likely a female herself, who fights for equality as women are seen as the weaker sex. A feminist is not a man-hater, which is what some people insist they are, though they are very 'pro-girl.' Feminism has been alive right through history, as females fought for their right to vote, work and receive equal pay. The world today would be very different if feminists never took action to change laws and empower themselves.

Anyone who can read between the lines of misogyny. And then, with grace and intelligence, acts appropriately to fight against it.
