It started when a nice guy hundreds of years ago pretty much said, "Hey guys, maybe we shouldn't be assholes to eachother." For this, he was nailed to a tree.

However, everyone didn't seem to be able to understand "Be nice" so they made up a ton of reasons why he said this.
Eventually this was spun out of hand and one question led to another.

Eventually it started being used to give reason to biggotry. Such as hatred twords gays. When the real reason that these christians hate gays is simply because they are different from them.
It was mainly used to squeeze money from followers (similar to Sceintology). And to gain more followers the christians decided to smear other religons, like Saitanism, to have more followers and more money.
They did this by naming the guy they blamed everything on Saitan, putting their nonsense holidays on the same days as other holidays, and even taking over the holidays of other religons (like Christmas).

Today it is used for, the mental controll of the population of America, stealing money from it's followers, making hate laws (no gay rights), making yourself feel better than everyone else because you belive the story about the cosmic jewish zombie who is his own father, etc...
There are too many christians on the interent.
"No, I'm pretty sure it was Christianity that started WWII."

A religion that follows primarily the teachings of Jesus Christ and the New Testament of the Holy Bible. Christianity has warped over the years. One perfect example is Mark 16:15. Because of this verse, many modern-day "Christians" take it upon themselves to go door-to-door and convert people to their religion. Real Christians, however, don't try to force their religion upon others, as they try to be more Jesus-like, and Jesus never forced his religion upon others; People followed him willfully.
Due to Mark 16:15, many a man believes that Christianity is made up of nothing more than some door-a-knockin' hooligans who only want to bother you while you watch Magnum P.I. to spread "the good news".

A religion that lots of jerks denigrate because they think it makes them into big men (or women) and that it makes them popular. In reality all it does is make these people look as ignorant and intolerant as those they denigrate.
In other words, it looks like it takes one to know one.

The belief that a jewish Zombie who can make you live forever in paradise if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree... yeah, I can understand why that's the world's most popular religion
Why is it that there are people who believe in Christianity, who look down on Scientology? The two are just as plausible (not at all)

One of three major religious groups that worship the god of Abraham, also known as Yahweh, Jehovah, and Allah. The others are Judaism and Islam. Held complete domination of Europe through most of the middle ages and erradicated almost all other belief systems in that territory. Early on there was a break between Roman Catholics in the west and Eastern Orthodox Christians in the Byzantine Empire based in Constantinople. The Catholic church had several Protestant churches break off in the early Rennaisance, in a period called the Reformation. Shortly after the Church began the Counter-Reformation which changed many policies and has continued to evolve.

The crusades, medieval witchhunts, and innumerable wars between Christian sects have all spilled enourmous amounts of blood in the name of this religion that professes universal love and brotherhood.

In general, modern Catholics do not believe the Bible is to be taken literally and is open to interpretation (on Oct. 12, 1996, Pope John Paul II announced that he believed the theory of evolution is correct and not in competition with religion). Protestants consist of dozens or hundreds of faiths, and it is from their number that some groups who believe every word in the Bible must be taken literaly and therefore evolution, along with most science, is wrong.
The Christian soldiers burned the city and killed all the men, women, and children, reasoning that "God will sort the dead."

Faith system in which the believer follows Christ and obeys His commandments.
Todd believes on Christ and follows Christ's example, therefore Todd is a Christian and part of Christianity

Hitler was not following Christ's example or obeying His commandments. Therefore Hitler wasn't Christian. He was a wolf in sheep's clothing and was not a true subscriber of Christianity.

Some politicians try to use Christianity to justify their actions and/or gain popularity.

The path that God has provided for reconciliation with him. He has disclosed himself to humans through the experiences of selected people, notably Abraham and his descendants through his son Issac. These people were brought into immediate contact with God in trials and blessings so that people might come to love and trust him. The record of these experiences are recorded in the Bible. These experiences are examples and invitations for everyone.

God is tripartite: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The penultimate event in human history was when God the Son assumed human identity in the form of Jesus of Nazareth. He lived a perfect life and then allowed himself to be crucified by the Jews and Romans then in power in Judea. Ultimately, the crucifixion was a crucial part of the original plan to redeem humans from the sin they fell into in the Garden of Eden after God had created perfect humans in a perfect world. Each human falls into sin himself/herself through their own choices recapitulating Adam and Eve's original sin. Jesus assumed humans' sins and paid the retributive price to God the Father for them. Jesus was then resurrected from the dead three days later to overcome death for all humans and to verify his divine identity to humans.

Jesus loves all people, including those who have ridiculed him on this website. He reaches out in love to them. All it takes for a relationship with him is to accept his sacrificial death on the Cross to cover our sins from God the Father. This acceptance is a pure act of faith that does not first require attempts to justify oneself in God's eyes. God simply requires that a person accept his Son as his/her Savior and his/her Lord.

If a person rejects God by rejecting his Son, then God will grant the wish of the person to be left alone for eternity. But when God's presence is not manifest, then nothing good is present to be enjoyed. People in Hell are quarantined from the rest of God's Creation which enjoys his full presence. These people receive only just punishment for their sins committed while on Earth.

The act of faith that reconciles the person with God is a rational act that is supported by the historical accuracy of the Bible and the verification of such miracles as Jesus' resurrection (if he did not rise from the dead, then why did not his adversaries display his dead body? If the disciples stole his body, why did they willingly allow themselves to be tortured to death when they could have revealed what actually happened to his body and cut a deal with the Roman and Jewish authorities?) As Pascal observed, belief is rational because it is a good bet--nothing to lose and everything to gain, while the non-believers' payoff matrix is the reverse of the believers' matrix. As William James observed, this decision is required by each of us whatever one might decide.
If you were to die tonight and were to come face to face with God, why should he let you into his Heaven? The answer that Christianity provides is: Because of the price Jesus paid for my sins on the Cross and my acceptance of this sacrifice to atone for my personal sins.
