A shitty band that invented heavy metal music by accident, due to the guitarist downtuning his guitar due to having injured fingers. While heavy metal is awesome, and indisputably the best form of music, with great bands like Megadeth and Iced Earth, early metal such as Black Sabbath is tremendously overhyped. It is not heavy at all, only compared to other music of the day such as the Beatles, and is more like today's sludge rock than today's metal. Ozzy in particular is tremendously overrated. Many claim that to like metal you HAVE TO like black sabbath, since they were early pioneers of it, but those same people do not realize that metal is rock and they themselves do not listen to Chubby Checker or Bill Haley who invented rock music, or to Claudio Monteverdi who invented modern western music in general, so they are hypocrites by claiming you HAVE TO like someone who invented something you like. Black Sabbath is NOT heavy, and NOT skillful. They wrote Paranoid at the last second in the studio, in all of 10 minutes while on cocaine, because their producer wanted the album to be one more song long so they just bullshitted something that sounded cool and rebellious at the time. If you like Black Sabbath great, but if you want to listen to something actually heavy, don't bother with them or other overrated band that released anything before 1984

One of the most influencal bands in heavy music.

First and still one of the greatest metal bands in the history of music. Originally a blues band from Birmingham, England called the Blues Earth Company or just plane Earth as they went by. Two members were kicked out of the band and they changed their name to Black Sabbath (named after an old horror movie). The original lineup included Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and Ozzy Osbourne. After Eight amazing albums Ozzy was being an asshole, so they kicked him out the band. Good ridance too. contrare to what you believe Black sabbath was never "ozzy's band". Ozzy didnt do shit in that band. all he did was sing, he didnt write any lyrics or anything, and his voice wasnt even all that great. The next Sabbath singer to take Ozzy's place was the master of metal singing, Ronnie James Dio. He was there the albums Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. After Dio left several other singers came in such as Ian Gillan, Ray Gillen, Glen Hughes and Tony Martin. Dio then returned for the best Black Sabbath album, Dehumanizer. Dio then left again and Ozzy returned and i believe they are writing new songs now. The have released new demos such as Pscho Man and Selling My Soul.

Black Sabbath started in the '60s as Polka Tulk Blues Company, broke up and reformed as Earth, and when they found out there was another band called Earth and that they were going into a new direction, they renamed the band Black Sabbath. Sabbath's goal was to create music to reach new, horror standards (most of metal is like that, but time after time it evolves), basically it wanted to get the audience to feel like as if it was a horror movie when listening to them. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1970, and it was influential in the making of heavy metal. Paranoid was released in the same year and was instantly a classic with songs like War Pigs, Paranoid and Iron Man. Master of Reality was came out in 1971 and became an highly influential record which included Sweet Leaf, Children of the Grave, and Lord of this World.
