Auditing

Auditing is a form of public scrutiny where individuals openly film locations, typically places of work, using their legal right to film in public spaces. Auditors aim to test the adherence of security personnel, law enforcement officers, and company employees to the law and regulations governing the right to film in public. By documenting and sharing their experiences, auditors can draw attention to potential abuses of power, promote transparency, and hold authorities accountable for their actions.

Auding
(verb)

Definition:
A modern word that means listening to a book, especially in audiobook form, as a way of experiencing the story. It’s the audio-based counterpart to reading. If reading is for your eyes, auding is for your ears.

Coined from the word audio + the suffix -ing (like reading), auding gives the act of listening to a book its own identity—because it’s just as valid, immersive, and real.

Submitted by: J.R. DesJardins
Origin: From “audio” + “reading” = auding, coined to describe the act of consuming books through listening.
Examples:
• “I don’t read much, but I aud three books a week.”
• “She was auding that memoir on her walk—couldn’t stop crying.”
• “Reading or auding, either way I’m narriencing the story.”

AI Auditing

The act of habitually scrutinizing online posts for evidence of AI-generated content, often in a disparaging manner that undermines genuine engagement and distracts from the substance of conversations. Practiced by individuals who prioritize the detection of AI usage over contributing to or fostering meaningful discourse, AI auditing is criticized for its presumptive nature and the unwarranted skepticism it casts on participants' authenticity.
"Despite the insightful discussion on climate change, the thread quickly devolved into AI auditing, with several members accusing others of not crafting their responses personally."
