the AFC Asia Cup
the most important international competition in football (soccer), which is held every four years in a different country in Asia and is organized by the Asia Football Confederation (AFC), one of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)'s six confederations.
1) Japan has been the reigning Asia champion since 2000.

2) Last summer, Aug. 7th, 2004, the Japan national football team was surrounded by hundreds of anti-Japanese Chinese supporters after the final of the AFC Asia Cup in Beijing. They threw stones and bottles at the team, and burnt the Japanese national flags. In every match, the Japanese national anthem was drowned out by boos, and Japanese supporters were thrown PET bottles and garbage by anti-Japanese Chinese supporters. Chinese xenophobia raises serious doubts about Beijing's ability to host the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
