An animal-like robot; a machine or man-made automaton that resembles and acts like an animal of a specific type or species. Compare to Android.
The term originated during the making of the sci-fi/cyberpunk film "Blade Runner" to describe the artificially created animals bought and sold as pets and status symbols. "The owl is not real, it's a machine--an animoid."
