An extremely intense sport, popular in America, Canada, and played in parts of Australia, which involves large amounts of endurance, strength, and strategy. Brits like to bash it, only because the term "football" is one more thing Americans have that used to be only theirs (oh snap), and because soccer (futbol, football, whatever) is the worlds most popular sport, they can't comprehend the fact that people don't agree with the majority.

The sport has become an obsession in America, and is a giant part of American culture. The rest of the world is obsessed with the lovely little gentlemans sport of futbol, America is obsessed with the hard-hitting high impact sport of football. Were different, not ignorant. If you don't like it, fake an injury and hope America gets a red card
People get mad when Americans bash soccer, and insist that we don't understand and that were ignorant of other cultures outside our own. Though, ironically, everyone else does the same exact thing when it comes to American football... But the majority agrees with them, so it's ok

a crappy and frankly, mind numbingly boring sport that only fat-shit Americans play because they lack the athleticism and skill of Rugby or Football(soccer).

fans are typical dull witted Neanderthals with beer bellies that dont understand what a proper sport it. fans typically love to brag about "how big and mean Ray Lewis" is but noone buys it. i would love to see Ray Lewis get run the fuck over by Pierre spies of South Africa.

Americans love to give their teams some special patriotic meaning but and to hype up their status such as "world champions" and all but not a single person gives a shit about American Football outside of the US.
typical American Football Supporter: wow look at this guy! he has been able to run for a whole 10 seconds! AMAZING!

decent human being: the fuck man?

Probably the most boring sport in the world. People standing around for minutes on end in silly science fiction costumes and occasionally running for a few seconds. Far too many rules and not enough flow. About as exciting as watching people play chess. Watch real football (the most popular sport in the world, for good reason) if you crave real excitement.
Patient: Doctor, I'm having difficulty sleeping.
Doctor: Just watch some American Football and you'll be asleep in a few minutes.

Like an american version of rugby. Less spontaneous but involves more strategy. There are some monsters that play in the game but it seems as if some of the big guys are just trained to do one thing. As for people going on about Ray Lewis and how hard, strong etc he is, its stupid to say which sport (rugby or american football) has bigger players because look at England's Andrew Sheridan for example - weighs 262 pounds (18 odd stone) bench presses 475 pounds - and believe me theres plenty more big guys like him. I would absolutely love to see american football players play rugby and vice versa - i think rugby players would struggle mainly cos of how technical the game is - i also think american footy players would be surprised at how tough the game is - theyd certainly feel the hits - specially in a league game. Its easier to play dirty in rugby union though (ie stamping, punching etc). In reality the games are so different its hard to compare - but what the hell i like rugby - and i reckon its a tougher more intense game to play (both codes - specially league)
US-european fags play soccer and rugby but american football is so tough
english-i think youd find, without the aid of steroids that rugby players are tougher although maybe not as dynamic (some of the NFL guys are amazingly quick and agile etc)

A sport similar in origin to Rugby. As an American, I've played both, and they're both good sports. Football is a complicated game, but here are some examples of rules:

11 men on the field at a time (on offense, you need at least 7 people on the line of scrimmage, and a Quarterback to receive the snap to start every play).
Players on offense are broken down into many positions, the main ones are Quarterback, Running back, Full back, Wide Receiver, Tight End, Tackle, Guard, Center.
Players on defense are broken down into 3 levels, Linemen, Linebackers, Defensive Backs. Lineman normally consist of Ends and Tackles. Linebackers usually consist of Inside and Outside Linebackers. Defensive backs usually consist of Cornerbacks and Safeties.
Teams also use kickers and punters on special teams.
The object of football is to advance the ball downfield by passing and running.
There are multiple ways to score, touchdowns (6 points), Point After Conversions (1 point), 2-point conversions (2 points), Field Goals (3 points), and Safeties (2 points).
A touchdown occurs when the ball is advanced to the endzone. After this, a team can elect to kick a point after conversion, or run a play from 2 yards out to try to pick up 2 points.
A Field Goal occurs when a team kicks the ball through the uprights.
A Safety occurs when the defensive team tackles the ball carrier inside their own endzone.
The field is 100 yards long.
The current World Champs are the New England Patriots, though the Indianapolis Colts look the strongest thus far in the season.
Tom Brady is an American Football player, David Beckham is a soccer player.

A great sport, extremely physically demanding. Many of you foreigners keep talking about how it must not hurt because there are pads, you clearly have not played the sport. I'd like to see you guys playing linebacker with a hugeass fullback coming straight at you. Without helmets, american football would be just stupid to play, especially at the line. In America, we have a name for all of you types of people saying things like "Americans are pansys," maybe you've heard of it. "Racist."
Rugby and American Football, while similar are two different sports, stop acting like they are exactly the same.

American football is the best sport in the world. I giv kudos to rugby players, becasue yes rugby is a tough sport that i actually blew my shoulder out playing. Football is better, not only than rugby, but than any other sport in exsistence. You need the endurance of a runner, the strength of a rugby player. Football uses pads, because it makes the game harder because ur carrying around an extra 10 pounds. Also, football takes different angles and different play types than any other sport making it an extremely dangerous game, even with pads. Plus, it takes more mental ability than playing chess. The players have to memorize 100's of small details. If a person messes up just once it could be a damaging blow to his or her team. Football is the worlds toughest sport, and the hardest. For those reasons, it is the best.
Fool: Cross country is the best sport!
Idiot: Baseball is the best sport!
Loser: Football is for idiots and fat people, and takes no strength.

Scholar: Football takes more strength, endurance, agility, skill, mental capacity, and balls to play than any other sport played by men.
