15. early 2000s
Usually considered an extension of the 1990's for American culture. Pretty much had the same feel of the past decade, but with a lot of political and economical trouble.

Many music stars and bands who were popular in the mid-late 90's continued their popularity, with some new emerging stars who sung in the same style. The boyband fad died in 2002, with the end of NSYNC and the hiatus of the Backstreet Boys.

Many popular shows from the late 90's continued or aired in reruns through the period. Reality TV was popular, but it wasn't usually scripted. Anime dominated the animation scene. In addition, 90's shows, which were either running or in reruns, remained popular. Adult cartoons became popular.

Politically, the early 00s was overall a horrendous time. Bush was inaugurated in 2001, followed by the 9/11 and anthrax attacks and the War on Terror later that year. The Iraq war in 2003.

The economy wasn't doing too well. The dot-com Bubble burst in 2000, leading to a recession in the 2001-2002 years, though it wasn't as bad as the late 2000s or 1930s recession.

Video games systems included the original Playstation, the PS2, Xbox 1, Dreamcast, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advanced. Online gaming started to become popular. 2D gaming was accepted for the portable systems, and portable remakes of many 80's and 90's classics. Home consoles usually had 3D games, but there were compilations of classic 2D games.

It wasn't perfect, but many are starting to reminisce on the time today.

Guy2: "Ganjtopia"

18. vt
Video Toaster
A powerful Hardware card/device that works alongside with the Software LightWave 3D that is used for Video Editing and CGI effects mainly utilized by the Movie/TV industry. It is a multi functional tool and used for video switching, genlocking, chroma-keying, luma-keying, character generation, animation, and image manipulation.

The whole market was shaken by the introduction of these devices in 1990 for Amiga a true underdog and ahead of its time affordable computer. The ability to produce lower cost special video effects moved the business and similar products were also launched by NewTek the manufacturer of VT for Macintosh and IBM compatible PCs in 1995. Neither platform actually succeeded till the collapse of Commodore the manufacturer of Amiga. And even after the fall, for many years the industry treated the other two platforms as less successfull copycats. Only recently the other two gained the market, but Amiga is still used today as a turnkey system for development, the end result is later migrated to PC/Macintosh for use in todays architecture.

There was an old saying that never reallly died among the guru meditating Amiga and VT users:
PC want it, Macintosh watch it, Amiga has it!

That is the bottom line.
That Amiga 2000 / VT combo advertised on E-BAy is exactly what C-SPAN2 needs to alpha-blend fake mustaches on the bul*sh*tty speech giving politicians.

19. Wii
The official name of Nintendo's fifth generation gaming console, successor to the Gamecube. Previously code-named the Revolution, it has been made to do just that: Revolutionize gaming. Utilizing innovative technology, including a motion-detecting controller, and boasting an enormous library of older games ranging from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the present and a backward-compatible virtual console to play them on, it is sure to do so. Its media drive accepts DVD-sized discs as well as 8 cm Gamecube discs. Information circulating recently suggests that the base will not only assist the Wii in maintaining its erect position (excuse the pun), but also act as a power source when being used abroad.

The controller, paired with sensors placed on either side of the television screen is capable of detecting movement in 3D space. In this way, many actions possible in the game can be simulated and controlled by the user. It is rumored to have various extensions, called "shells," to change the style of gameplay accordingly to a certain game. For example, as illustrated by IGN, a gun-shaped shell could adapt the controller for FPS-style play. They are to be attached at the base of the controller, where an expansion port is located. A nunchaku-style analog extension has been confirmed, which will serve as a means of traditional gameplay (i.e. Gamecube), though the GCN's controllers can be used as well.

Nintendo has also claimed to provide free Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity)...
