Not only is “Slut” an insult, it's based on sexist ideas about what a woman’s role is. The idea stems from the olden days when a woman’s life would solely based on servitude to a man, with no rights to luxuries, happiness or enjoyment for herself and to have freedom of choice of who she would sleep with would be considered “dirty” or “wrong”.
Some insecure women also call other women “Sluts” to give the impression their value/worth is higher than the woman they are referring to.
''Yeah? Why?'' I asked confused ''Isn't she the slutty girl who has done lots of guys? why isn't she doing it anymore?''
''She is no longer a slut because she got Aids, she quit doing it and now she is really ill''
''I feel bad for her, she's got no one to hang out with''
''Like us, loners'' she replied sadly.
''Yeah'' I said with my head down.
Men do not refer to a woman with whom they've had sex with as a slut if they are holding out any hope of sleeping with them again. Such a pejorative word would greatly reduce their chances of said event to reoccur. A woman who a man has actually slept with is seldom referred to as a slut by that man.
2. A word used by hurt boys to describe either the girl that just dumped them or a girl, who they fancy, that wont go out with them.
"My ex is a slut, she has moved on already and we only finished 2 days ago".
Souce: The good old Wikipedia, search: Promiscuity.
Usually used when derogatorily referring to females.
In some tribes of Sierra Leone, "A woman who is a Paramount Chief may have sexual intercourse with as many men as she pleases."
Being slutty is common in certain animal species; it's social acceptance varies from culture, geographical area to time period.
