I guess if you live in or around a city, to you that is THE city. And where I live, the Bay Area, San Francisco is THE city. Not Oakland, not San Jose, not Foster City (even though it has "city" in its name), but San Francisco. And no one I know here calls it "Frisco"
Guy 1: hey I'm going into the city this Saturday, wanna come?

Guy 2: depends. what city?

Guy 1: San Francisco dumfuck! What did you think I ment, Boise fucking Idaho???

Guy 2: you could have been talking about San Jose...

New York City, the greatest FUCKING city in da woyld. Everyone whose not from New York is a FUCKING BARBARIAN.
People who are not from The City, such as Long Island, or West Chester, or Rockland's Country, do not have the luxury of indoor plumbing as we City folk do.

But then again, we civilized folk wouldnt have milk or meat if it wasn't four the agriculture of the Upstate New York.

Get the The City mug.
Colloquialism for the area of London around Bank tube station. Lots of large international banks and law firms centre round there. So called because the area comprised the actual "City of London" administrative area."

Populated by vile overpaid tossarses for the most part.
Jasmine got a job with Linklaters, a law firm in the City. She quit soon after due to the multitudinous tosspots who worked there, braying rugby-shirted fratboys to a man.
