A distinct nomadic Irish ethnic group known to have been in Ireland for centuries, for their own distinct dialect (possibly their own language) and for a certain degree of xenophobia. Synonyms are "Irish Gypsy" and "Tinker" among others. They are not believed to be ethnicly related to other Gypsies though are thought to have a similar lifestyle.
Murphy Village S.C. is known to be home to a few hundred Irish Traveler families.

An Irish traveler is not a gypse and is not like one. An irish Traveler is a family that sticks by eachothers side with there cousins and brothers and sisters when trouble gets loose as most people would have called irish travelers gyspes and they will get affended when called gypses as irish travelers owneds houses and do not come from a poor backround as the gypse live in poverty and are usally poor not very many people likes irish travelers and thats why they come in groups so they will not be jumped to be seriously hurt or killed and irish travelers are not bullys they will stand there ground and fight alone with there family people think there bullys because who they are. But people try to kill them because they hate irish travelers and they are most likely be in groups to help eachother out . Irish travelers are not people to mess with they can be dangerious if u pick a fight with them they will never be there or come there alone. and they have there own type of slang as a code word that other people wouldnt understand for example an irish traveler would be a mc donagh but if there not a irish traveler then there not differnt and travelers are differnt as most mcdonaghs are know to fight but dont start them unless needed and many irish travelers have died over being killed and has caused war in ireland for years. The main reason was that they would call the irish travelers a gypse and would start fights
An irish traveler will fight until death and once picked on wont stop.
