Typically worn by females, but is now increasingly worn by males as well. Uses include: warmth, insulation, attractiveness, smoothing of leg color, blemish-hider, vericose vein relief as well as leg comfort for those who stand all day...and basically you get panty/boxer, socks in one article of clothing. Pantyhose basically enhance the look of the legs.
In the beginning, pantyhose were called tights and were worn by men in centuries past. Over past decades, the fetish community has seen its share of persons obsessed with pantyhose.
