This word was coined by Philip Hearn of Jackson, Mississippi in 2003, after he received 45 phone calls in 15 minutes from his girlfriend. They were in a fight and he wouldn't answer the phone so she kept calling and calling in an attempt to get him to answer. When someone calls you repeatedly, time after time, not leaving a voicemail, and instead keeps calling, this is phonewhipping.
My girlfriend is madder than hell. She called forty times in the last hour. She's phonewhipping the crap out of me.
I have a crazy client that's phonewhipped me all day. I bet she's called sixty times.
The guy at the cable company won't answer his cell. I'm going to phonewhip him until he answers.
