Philistine = No Culture
A conformist in everything they do. A person who is obsessed with sports, sex (among the High School and College set in particular, but some may not be at all) and Motor vehicles. They listen to whatever everyone else is listening to (especially if it is Country Music, Classic Rock, Nickleback, Limp Bizkit or rap/Hip Hop in the case of many younger philistines), wear whatever everyone else is wearing, and avoid anything that is in the least bit unusual, unique, or eccentric. They tend to have little to no use for art, be of limited intelligence, be obsessed with such things as NASCAR, golf, Hunting and Fishing, and tend to drive gas guzzling vehicles like SUVs and Extended cab Pickup Trucks. They are the fuel behind reality television. They love ATVs and all the damage they cause to the land. They could care less about the environment, only recycle if they feel a significant profit is to be made, and think that by keeping everything cut (grass, brush etc, ignorant of the fact that the plants that they are leaving are invasive) and throwing everything in the trash that they are helping the environment.
They are ignorant of geography and will generalize an entire region under the identity of a single city eg Paramount's King's Island being in "Cincinnati", Disney World being in "Orlando", Coral Castle being in "Miami" and Tybee Island being in "Savannah".
No capability of thinking outside the box or any other sort of critical thinking for that matter.
The United States is domminated by Philistines.

Yuppie scum comes in many forms. They tend to be separated from philistines by a greater income, a higher intelligence, higher education, and a greater appreciation of the arts. But any amongst these is not always the case.
But like the philistine, people who are yuppie scum are big time conformists and often times care little for the environment (unless they somehow feel that their momentary gain is significantly worth their efforts.) They are very materialistic, constantly overconsuming that which takes relatively little time to get tossed in the trash. Yuppie Scum buy, or build, a newer, larger house every two or three years or so, with little concern for the effect this has on the land (see McMansion.) They love, and are a driving force behind many of the demolition, renovation and anti "clutter" shows on such channels as TLC, HGTV, and sometimes even the Discovery Channel among others. If an older house exists that they buy, they will either tear it down to build a newer, larger house, or destroy anything that makes it distinctive (or as they see it, "dated".) They will also tear out bushes and trees that have been growing there for decades, generations even, and are still perfectly healthy! Yuppie scum typically care little for historic preservation. In fact, yuppie scum have done great damage by tearing down aeons old buildings in places like Nantucket, and replacing them with Tennis Courts etc. They can do whatever they want, they're rich.
Yuppie scum have a tendency to wear dull, conservative, buisinesslike attire. To see how yuppie scum like to dress, just watch Stacy and Clinton on What Not to Wear. They often drive large, pretentious, gas guzzling vehicles like Hummers.
Yuppie Scum is a varied and diverse group. They are usually
nouveau riche but can also be bluebloods.
Among them can be found many different groups, among them are:

Middle aged baby boomer men who diorced their 1st wives for a much younger trophy wife (see the Donald)

Soccer Moms (who are often trophy wives themselves) who drive up the price of gasoline with their huge SUVs, and somtimes breed like rabbits

"Homebuilders", real estate or property Developers and others who gain instant gratification and wealth from the rape of the land.

Anyone who lives by "Curb Appeal," "What Not to Wear," "Designed to Sell" and other similar programs.

Anyone on the wealthy side who is upwardly mobile and has only limited concern for those less fortunate or well off than themselves (except when an act somehow selfishly has an advantageous effect on themselves.)
Honda Elements may "fit" into the compact spaces in a parking lot, but they're not exactly compacts. Grr. How many times have I had to squeeze out of the door of my actual compact because an SUV has been parked too close to me by some yuppie scum?

1) A word used to describe an area that has a much higher density than the surrounding area; clustered. This could either be the downtown of the central city in a larger metropolitan area (the skyscraper distict) or a clustered villiage/hamlet surrounded by forest\cropland\open desert.

2) Traditionally, areas where employment came from non-primary sources (secondary and tertiary). However, modern industry tends to take place over an area that has little of the density needed to truly be considered urbanized.

3)Associated with African-American or Hip-Hop culture.

4) Not suburban.
1) Believe it or not, a dense clustered villiage or hamlet surrounded by open countryside is very much in fact, urban.
An estate, set back from the road on 5 or more acres, a house space or more away from their neighbors near the metropolitan centre, now that's just not urban.

2)While the economy of our metropolitan area is considered urban, the density of the industrial parks is low enough to render that term laughable.

3)There is a store in Paducah near Lowertown that sells urbanwear and other aspects of urban or hip-hop culture.

4)Theres nothing sadder than a bunch of people living in low density suburbia calling themselves "urban".

Prior to the Industrial revolution, before swarms of people migrated from Small towns, villages, and farming hamlets to large industrial cities and Metropolises, the populations people were around all the time (their community) were so small, that if one person within that community was feeble of mind, they were designated the village idiot.

Think Adrien Brody's character in M. Night Shyamalan's "the Village" (2004)

TRIVIA
"Idiot" was a category in the U.S. Census back during the 19th Century which refered to mental retardation.
In the episode of Ren and Stimpy "Magical Golden Singing Cheeses" (Air date: November 11th, 1994) Stimpleton comes across the Man Eating Village Idiot, owner of the (see title). The Village Idiot agrees to the trade, but threatens that unless Stimpleton can prove his stupidity in a "battle of witlessness" he will eat Stimpleton.
To make a long and greusome story short, Stimpleton wins the contest, leaving the Man Eating Village Idiot dead from his own stupidity.

An indigenous person of the Western Hemisphere, which includes the North and South American continents, as well as the West Indies, and even Greenland. Believed to have crossed over the Berring Strait during the last Ice Age. They produced great and technologically advanced civilizations such as the Mayans, the Aztecs, the Incas, and many others.
Also known as American Indian, Amerind (also their language group), Amerindian, & Native American Indian etc

Most (north of the Rio Grande in particular) were killed off by various means.

The people of Mexico, ranked by wealth and influence (at least for the first 3), from least to most, are somthing like 20% Native American, 70% Mestizo (a mixture of White, typically Mediteranian Spanish European, and Native American), 7% White\European, and 3% Other (typically of or containing African and or Middle Eastern Ancestry)
So my point is, when people immigrate from Mexico to the USA (EEUU), whether legally or illegally, they are oftentimes just returning to the land that they had always occupied, millenia before Columbus or Leif Erikson
north of the Rio Grande, most Native Americans were killed off by European diseases or by Euro-American imminent domain (which not only involved getting kicked off their land, but also the coldblooded murder of the men, the rape of the women, the sending of the children off to fascistic orphanages and boarding schools where their culture was systematically suppressed so they could instead speak english and follow protestant christianity)

Most of the people in Bolivia, Peru, Guatemala, and El Salvador are Native Americans.

The largest city in western Kentucky's Jackson Purchase region, and the only significant city in Kentucky who's name is of native american origin. Has alot of character for a town it's size, even having it's own Symphony Orchestra. Paducah once had a light rail system, as all significant cities once did, now has a bus system. The founder of Dr Pepper was from here, and the first factory was in the nearby suburb of Lone Oak (also the hometown of Jeri Ryan).
Paducah has long had a significant jewish community, which was periodically evacuated during the civil War.
Lower Town, which borders downtown to the northeast is Paducah's fine arts district. Once a slummy red light district with crackhouses, meth labs and crime, but thanks to the artist relocation program, artists from as far as NYC, San Fransisco, Hawaii and Paris France have relocated here and have fixed up the dilapidated old mansions which were often sold for less than $10 apiece. This is where the Yeiser Art Center and many galleries are.
Paducah Is finally being reborn, like a phoenix from the ashes.
Did you see the story about Lower Town on the national news the other night?

The land which belongs to someone.
They had a 4 acre spread on the outskirts of "town" and a large gun collection. They were afraid of the government.
